What exactly is this Formula E Edition?

This isn’t a mechanical overhaul. It’s a special, motorsport-themed edition of the BE6 meant to showcase Mahindra’s electric racing identity.

The Formula E Edition is available in two trims. Prices start at ₹23.69 lakh and go up to ₹24.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

The exterior redesign includes extensively revised front and rear bumpers, a brushed-aluminium faux skid plate, an integrated spoiler on the boot lid, updated headlamps, and a striking combination of hood and wheel stripes, along with new paint options.

Elements such as the orange tow hook, red brake callipers, Formula E rear badging, and orange inserts on the running boards further push the racing-inspired identity.

Buyers can choose from four exclusive colourways — Tango Red, Firestorm Orange, Everest White, and Stealth Black — each amplifying the Edition’s performance-themed styling.

What’s new on the outside?

At first look, the Formula E Edition feels considerably more expressive than the standard SUV. Key changes include:

The cabin receives a heavy visual refresh. I noticed:

• A black-and-orange dual-tone interior

• Orange accents on the steering wheel, doors, and centre console

• Carbon-fibre-style inserts across key panels

• Formula E branding embroidered on the upholstery

• A more performance-oriented ambience overall

Even with the sporty makeover, the layout remains familiar, with spacious seating, a wide dashboard, and an EV-centric cockpit design.

What’s unchanged mechanically?

Mahindra hasn’t touched the powertrain, and honestly, it didn’t need to. The BE6 already had strong fundamentals.

Here’s what the Formula E Edition continues to offer:

• Single motor, rear-wheel-drive layout

• Around 282 hp and 380 Nm

• Fast charging capability up to 180 kW

• 20–80% charge in roughly 20 minutes under ideal conditions

• Range remains similar — the official claim is over 650 km in ideal conditions.

This Edition is mostly about design, mood, and identity, not a performance tune.

Who is Mahindra targeting with this Edition?

From my perspective, this Formula E Edition speaks directly to:

• Buyers who want an EV that looks exciting, not just efficient

• Young families or professionals who see their car as a style statement

• EV adopters who want exclusivity without entering luxury segments

This special edition allows Mahindra to position the BE6 as an EV with personality, something many buyers have been waiting for.

Mahindra Electric SUVs targets 7,000 EV sales a month

While the BE6 Formula E Edition draws attention for its styling, it also arrives at an important moment for Mahindra’s electric strategy.

My take — does the Formula E Edition add real value?

I think it does, as long as expectations stay grounded.

The Formula E Edition doesn’t promise quicker 0–100 runs or extra range.

What it delivers is design differentiation, a stronger identity, and a more emotional appeal, all of which matter in India’s emerging EV market.

In a segment where most electric SUVs look clean and minimalistic, the BE6 Formula E Edition feels expressive, youthful, and a little rebellious. For many buyers, that alone is worth the premium.

Mahindra has used this Edition to bridge the gap between its motorsport pedigree and its road-going EV lineup.

It’s not a technical transformation, it’s a stylistic one.

But sometimes, design is exactly what pushes an EV from “interesting” to “desirable.”
